Ashley Phillips sifu is a steadfast reliable teacher and student of the Association. He has passed 4 gradings and remains a quiet man with good ability. He has produced a number of good students who are keen to follow his example. Ashley has that unique ability of remaining unflustered even in the most difficult sparring sessions.

Ashley Phillips Sifu is also one of the most popular teachers in the UKWCKFA. Reliable, hard training and forthright he conducts himself in a quiet and professional manner at all times. He is a great teacher because he would always rather be training and has never lost the mind of the inquisitive student. He is always enthusiastic and open to questions from students.

Ashley Phillips Sifu begain his Wing Chun journey under Master Sinclair’s student Kerry Green on Canvey Island in Essex and moved on to train with James Sinclair at his full time school in Rayleigh. He has successfully passed four grading in the UKWCKFA syllabus and completed learning the formal art. He is one of the most senior and able students in the UKWCKFA.

In 2005 Ashley and a group of students went with Master Sinclair to Hong Kong. With his long term training partner, Gary Cooper Sifu, Ashley demonstrated a simple fight sequence in the Chin Woo School in Foshan, China at the 2nd Ving Tsun Atheletic Association World Conference.  This demonstration was performed in front of many of the world’s most reknowned teachers.  The demonstration was well received by a very knowledgable audience and opened a lot of doors to the UKWCKFA.     He has since been accepted as a lifetime member and recognised as a Sifu by the VTAA

Sifu Ashley Phillips is not only a good Wing Chun practitioner he is also a hard working and skilled Brazillian Jiu Jitsu student. He began his training with former a former UKWCKFA student, Lee Catling, who ran classes at the UKWCKFA National Hq. Lee went on to

open his own Martial Art school with Sifu Mark Phillips specialising is sport based martial arts, for students who like to compete.  In 2004 Ashley entered a grappling competition and won the Middleweight Silver Medal, only losing to our own Sifu Nick Martin in the final.

In November 2004 Ashley and a few of the Wing Chun students, who train hard with Progressive Combat at the HQ, entered the South East of England Sombo Championships. Ashley won a bronze medal with only one lesson training by Sombo rules. The team won 3 silver and one bronze medal, a result to be proud of.

February 2007 Ashley Phillips won 3rd place in the ‘2006 Instructor of the Year awards.

March 2011 Ashley was awarded the 2010 Instructor of the Year trophy. Always in the running it was an extremely popular presentation.

 

Ashley has fought in Sombo and BJJ competitions and has achieved very good results. At the National HQ Ashley now offers students training in BJJ/Grappling skills and runs drop in sessions on Friday evenings with Black Belt BJJ student Sifu Mark Phillips.
